With the huge success of The Hunger Games, Lionsgate has quickly started production on the sequel, officially titled The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Now that Frances Lawrance is locked in as the director, along with Simon Beaufoy and Michael Arndt safely tucked away working on the adaptation, all that’s left is the cast. Of course Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their roles, but what about the other major players?
Rumors started to fly indicating Robert Pattinson was in talks to star as veteran tribute Finnick Odair – a rumor that he has since denied. Now, news suggests that three actors are being sought for the role. According to sources, Taylor Kitsch, Gerret Hedlund, and Armie Hammer are all currently being looked at for the part.in the upcoming sequel.
Some insiders are saying one of these actors will likely be offered the role, but Lionsgate has not yet ruled out the possibility of going with an unknown. The studio could make a decision as soon as this week.
Kitsch is best known for his two major studio releases John Carter and Battleship. Both films didn’t fair so well at the box office. Hedlund starred in Tron: Legacy and is likely to continue that franchise with Tron 3 – if it ever gets off the ground. Hammer is currently shooting The Lone Ranger, as lead opposite Johnny Depp.
