Zoe Saldana has landed a role alongside Danny Trejo in Machete Kills.
Trejo spilled the beans about Saldana’s casting during a recent interview. “Machete Kills is going to be a lot more over-the-top than Machete,” said Trejo. “We’ve got Sofia Vergara, who is a star in her own right, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez and Zoe Saldana — and guess what? I get to kiss all of ’em.”
The movie Machete Kills is centered around the U.S. government trying to stop a Mexican cartel leader and arms dealer who has possession of a weapon in space.
Danny Trejo is returning as the disgraced Mexican authority turned criminal. In a past interview, Robert Rodriguez, who directed the original Machete with Ethan Maniquis, mentioned that he’d like to have full control over the next Machete edition.
“There’s so much of it that I want to direct I’ll probably end up directing the whole thing,” Rodriguez said. “But if I have to step off, I’m going to try and shoot all of the actors and all of the main sequences. But it’s such a fun movie, and it just came out even more fun than I could have imagined.”
“I feel like I really need to do it,” he continued. “It’s so subjective I feel like I really need to get in there and do it. It’s just a lot of fun; it’s a really cool concept, and I think it takes it to another level in a way that’s compelling for me to go and do it myself.”
Production for Machete Kills starts in June.
