Lee Daniels’ upcoming film The Butler has just received an additional actress for its project. Minka Kelly, who starred in the NBC series Friday Night Lights, has been cast to play Jackie Onassis Kennedy.
Kelly will be joining a pretty impressive cast that already have several actors on board. Forest Whitaker is playing the main character. Oprah, who co-produced Precious alongside Daniels, is playing the wife of the the butler. Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack and Nicole Kidman will be reuniting with Daniels after The Paperboy. Lenny Kravitz, who also was involved in the movie Precious, has been cast in the film as well. The cast will also feature other big name stars including Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding Jr., David Oyelowo, and Terrence Howard.
The Bulter is based Eugene Allen, a black butler who worked at the White House from 1952 to 1986, serving under eight presidents. The movie was inspired by an article written about Eugene’s life story by Wil Haygood. The butler started working at the White House at a time when blacks were still discriminated against in America.
