The attorney representing the estate of deceased civil rights icon Rosa Parks claims that two lawyers and a judge conspired to funnel money from the estate.
According to court documents obtained by the Huffington Post, attorney Stephen G. Cohen claims that Wayne County Probate Judge Freddie Burton Jr. conspired with John Chase Jr. and Melvin Jefferson Jr. to amass $507,000 in unwarranted legal fees. Cohen said the estate is $88,000 in debt.
A lawyer representing both Jefferson and Chase denies any conspiracy, while Judge Burton declined to comment when questioned by the Detroit Free Press.
Cohen represents the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute, which was given the majority of Parks’ estate after her death.
