Russell Brand will lead the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Today, the network announced that the 36-year-old actor/comedian has signed on to host the show.
“This MTV Movie Awards will be more impressive than The Avengers, and you won’t have to wait an hour for someone to Hulk out,” Brand said Thursday.
In the past, Brand hosted the MTV Video Music Awards, which may have helped him land lead roles in comedy films such as Get Him to the Greek, Arthur and Rock of Ages, (which will be in theaters this June). This is the first time he will be hosting the MTV Movie Awards.
He is “such a brilliant talent,” said executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic, who worked with Brand on the VMAs. “He brings the funny but he also has that rock ‘n’ roll aesthetic.”
The leading contenders for this year’s awards are The Hunger Games and Bridesmaids, which have eight nominations each.
The show airs live at 9 p.m. ET on June 3rd.
