Rebecca Hall is next in line to star opposite Robert Downey, Jr. in Iron Man 3 as a scientist who specializes in nanotechnology. The Town star will take over the role after Jessica Chastain announced that she would have to decline a part in the film due to scheduling conflicts.
Chastain wrote on her facebook page: “I’m sorry to say that Iron Man 3 isn’t going to work out. My schedule is jammed packed and I can’t fit anything else in.”
Hall’s role will be the intellectual equal of Tony Stark. Although it’s not confirmed, it’s possible that the part is that of Dr. Maya Hansen, a character responsible for the nanotechnology that is said to be a key part of the sequel’s focus.
Shane Black will be directing Iron Man 3. Shooting is scheduled to begin this month in China and in North Carolina, with an expected release date of May 2013.
Iron Man’s teammate Thor is gearing up for his sequel as well. Thor 2 is expected to hit theaters November 15, 2013.
