After observing the way Mad Men fans flocked to the series’ premiere in record numbers after waiting 17 months, it’s clear that absence must make the heart grow fonder.
According to AMC, season 5’s two-hour premiere drew record ratings, making it the most watched episode ever for the series. The network says from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., Mad Men drew 3.5 million viewers, a 21% improvement from the season 4 premiere.
This news comes after AMC recently enjoyed another record breaking premiere. Last month, the second season of the zombie hit series The Walking Dead attracted 8.1 million viewers, the most watched episode for that show.
Mad Men depicts the advertising world of 1960s New York City. The TV drama stars Jon Hamm as ad exec Don Draper and airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. Eastern time.
