Carla Gugino has landed a role opposite Sigourney Weaver in the drama series Political Animals. The 6-episode USA TV series follows Elaine Barrish (Weaver), who is a newly divorced First Lady recovering from her disappointing loss at the presidential nomination.
Barrish is also the mother of adult twin sons. Facing a potential investigation from the Justice Department, she relies heavily on one of them. Her reliable son Doug is an ambitious political figure, who serves as her Chief of Staff. Alternatively, she’s haunted by his twin brother, who struggles with an addiction.
Gugino will play the hungry DC journalist set on destroying Barrish’s career. Coming off her recent on-screen role in the movie Sucker Punch and Showtime’s popular series Californication, the actress is a powerful addition to the cast.
Written by Greg Berlanti and Laurence Mark, the political show is a fictional take on the former First Lady Hillary Clinton and a family dynasty weakened by power, lust, and greed.
USA launches Political Animals this summer, just in time for the upcoming presidential election.
