Steve Colbert will not be taping new episodes of The Colbert Report this week and possibly even longer according to what fans were told when they showed up on Wednesday to sit in the audience.
Viewers who tuned in to Comedy Central on Wednesday night expecting a new episode of Colbert Report, were disappointed with a rerun of the Stephen Colbert-led “fake news” hit show.
Audience members were reportedly turned away from Colbert’s Wednesday show and told the show had been canceled for “unforseen reasons,” according to a Deadline report. However; The Colbert Report‘s companion show, Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show, aired as scheduled.
Comedy Central has been sticking with the official script when pressed for an explanation for the sudden suspension of The Colbert Report:
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, the show will air repeat episodes on Wednesday, February 15 and Thursday, February 16.”
Fortunately for fans, all is not in total despair, as a source reportedly with knowledge of the situation told The TV Column the show is expected to return to taping soon. HuffingtonPost has also quoted “a person having a business relationship with the show” saying Colbert’s 91-year-old mother is ailing and he will return to the show when he has dealt with the personal matter.
