Ben Whishaw Cast As Q In Bond Film Skyfall

Ben Whishaw got a new role in the latest installment of the James Bond franchise, Skyfall, according to various reports around the web.  Whishaw will play the role of  MI6 gadget master “Q”, the character who supplies Bond with all of his nifty hi-tech gadgets and espionage equipment in the movies.

“Q” has not appeared in the franchise since 2002’s Die Another Day, where he was played by John Cleese. Prior to that, “Q” was played by Desmond Llewelyn, who owned the role for an impressive 36 years.

It appears the producers opted to go with a much younger “Q” this time around being that Ben Whishaw’s  is 31 and Daniel Craig, who plays James Bond, is 43. Traditionally, the actor playing “Q” has been older than James Bond.

Whishaw is making his first appearance in the Bond movies, while Craig is making his 3rd as 007.  However the two British actors have shared the silver screen together before in the 2004 gangster Brit-flick Layer Cake.

Skyfall opens on October 26 2012.
