Georgia Couple Disappears After Police Dig Up Body of Missing Black Man Near Their Home

Authorities are searching for a Georgia couple who fled after police discovered the body of a missing Black man buried on their rented Barrow County property early last week.

According to WSB-TV, Micheal and Jennifer Huff were at the home Wednesday, May 2, when investigators uncovered what is believed to be the remains of missing Walton County man Montez Watson, who disappeared in February. Officials found the body in a makeshift grave behind the Huff’s mobile home.

“They evacuated the property when we came and have not returned,” Captain Kirk McLeroy of the Walton County Sheriff’s Office told the news station.

A tip from a witness led police to the couple’s home on Fleeman Road where local and state officers began digging for the body around 8 o’clock that morning. Investigators say they’re treating the case as a homicide and believe the murder may have happened at the victim’s home in Loganville, Ga. However, they’re still not completely sure it’s Watson’s body.

” … What we are waiting on now is positive identification, and that normally goes through fingerprints or dental records,” said McLeroy. “So that will be up to the medical examiner’s office to determine the identification.”

Local deputies said they also searched the home for other evidence, including blood, weapons, clothing or any kind of struggle. It remains unclear why the Huff residence was chosen to bury the body, however.

As for the two suspects in question, McLeroy offered this bit of advice:

“It would be in their best interest to turn themselves in because what we want to do is get justice for the family.”
