Florida City Official Says His Town Will Display Any Confederate Monuments Other Cities Don’t Want

Don’t want your Confederate monuments? No worries. A Florida city commissioner is willing to take them off your hands.

In Facebook post Thursday, Aug. 17, Eustis City Commissioner Anthony Sabatini offered to accept and “proudly display” Confederate monuments donated by other cities and counties. The gesture comes after recent unrest in Charlottesville, Va., spurred efforts to remove such statues honoring Confederate figures.

The commissioner’s proposal, which the Orlando Sentinel reported stands very little chance of gaining passage in the Central Florida town of 20,000, has garnered mixed reactions from locals.
