Common Says People Ignoring Police Brutality Are Not Doing Duty as Americans

On the Sept. 27 edition of ABC’s “The View,” rapper and activist Common comments on San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick’s protest.

In the segment above, Common says that he fully supports Kaepernick. Common adds that police brutality can not be ignored any longer, people must act.

“He’s standing up for justice,” he starts. “[Kaepernick] sees things going wrong in our country. I think we all see it … We are not doing our duty as Americans or children of God.”

Common has become the latest celebrity to compare Kaepernick’s protest to boxing legend Muhammad Ali.

“I haven’t seen an athlete take that kind of stand since Muhammad Ali.”

The artist also reveals that the victims of police brutality have inspired his most recent work.
