Off-Duty Officer Involved in Delrawn Small Shooting Charged with 2nd Degree Murder

On Monday, Sept. 26, off-duty New York Police officer Wayne Isaacs was indicted for the July 4 murder of unarmed Black man Delrawn Small, 46.

According to WABC ABC 7 New York, Isaacs was charged with second-degree murder for Small’s death.

In the July 4 cam footage, Small approaches Isaacs’ car before stumbling away after being shot.

While initial reports stated that Small reached into the car and punched the plainclothes officer, the footage shows Small was shot seconds after approaching Isaac’s vehicle.

Investigators believe the two men were engaged in a road rage incident prior to the fatal conclusion.

“I want justice for my husband, Delrawn Small,” Wenona Small tells the press. “I want Officer Wayne Isaacs to spend the rest of his life in jail. And I will be at every court proceeding and hearing until there’s justice for my husband.”

Small was shot and killed in front of his wife and two small children. Wenona plans to sue the New York Police Department for $25 million, per a NY1 news report.

Isaacs is expected to surrender and appear in court on Tuesday.
