Issa Rae Backs Andrea Lewis’ ‘Black Actress’ IndieGoGo Campaign

Issa RaeAndrea Lewis and Issa Rae are teaming up for a new web series that will explore the ups and downs of the life of a Black actress. The aptly named web series, “Black Actress,” was created by Lewis and will be housed on Issa Rae’s YouTube channel, which was made popular by Rae’s “Awkward Black Girl” series. The two are pairing up for an IndieGoGo campaign that will help the show make it through it’s first full season. Check out the campaign info and video below:

Why “Black Actress” was created:

Andrea Lewis has been in the entertainment business her entire life. As an actress she has experienced the ups and downs of the entertainment industry. After dealing with the stereotypes and situations that black actresses face over and over, the idea for Black Actress was born.

The mockumentary-style series is a depiction of Lewis’ and other prominent Black actresses’ everyday struggles to succeed in an industry that thrives on stereotypes.
