Linda McGill Boasmond is the only Black woman to own a chemical manufacturing company, and she’s making big bucks doing it. Linda chose to reject the reality of the male-dominated industry, evoking her entrepreneurial spirit and changing her life. According to chicagogrid.com:
“After years of managing plants for other people, ‘I thought it was time I did it for myself,’ she says of her decision nine years ago to become the sole owner of Cedar Concepts Corp., a chemical manufacturing plant on the South Side [of Chicago].
“That entrepreneurial move made her the first and only African-American woman to own a chemical manufacturing plant, one that does more than $20 million in annual revenues, says Boasmond, who expects the company’s revenues to triple in two to four years.”
Boasmond’s Cedar Concepts Corporation manufactures high volumes of a wide variety of goods, producing 50 to 70 million pounds of chemicals every year. According to projectrealize.com:
“[The] Chicago-based Cedar Concepts Corporation processes raw materials for use in a wide variety of personal-care, household, industrial, and agricultural products marketed under many brand names familiar to both consumers and businesses. Her customers include Colgate Palmolive, Citgo Petroleum and Boeing.”
Boasmond’s success story is a unique one, as she’s not only excelling as a Black person, but also as a Black woman in a male-dominated industry. Just goes to show that with drive, determination and hard work, anything is possible.
