Fans Of True Blood will get to sink their teeth into a seventh season of the vampire drama, according to an HBO announcement on Monday.
The series about vampires, werewolves and witches continues to have strong ratings despite the departure of series creator Alan Ball at the end of Season 5 to focus on other projects, and the departure of his replacement showrunner, Mark Hurdis, midway through the sixth season to create his own HBO series. Brian Buckner, Hurdis’ replacement, will return as showrunner for the seventh season.
“True Blood remains a signature show for HBO, and a true phenomenon with our viewers,” said HBO programming president Michael Lombardo. “Thanks to Brian Buckner and his talented team, the show continues to be a thrill ride like nothing else on TV.”
Starring Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgard, True Blood is based on Charlaine Harris’ “Southern Vampire Mysteries” book series. The final book in the 13-book series, “Dead Ever After” was published in May, meaning writers for the popular HBO show have a lot of material to work from.
The next season of True Blood will air in summer 2014.
