Green Goblin Rumored to Appear in Spidey Sequel

A recent report from Total Film has speculated on the possibility of the first Green Goblin appearance in the heavily anticipated Amazing Spider-Man 2 following some recent comments made by John Krokidas.

When it was announced last month that Dane DeHaan would be taking on the role of Harry Osborn, film and comic book geeks alike rightly rejoiced. Director Marc Webb has now followed through on bringing Electro to the silver screen in Jamie Foxx, and managed to surround leading man Andrew Garfield with other astounding talent. While the term reboot is becoming more and more stale, it’s given a mulligan when considering these new Spider-Man films have erased the horror that is Spider-Man 3 (not permanently, mind you, but it’s dressed the wound).

John Krokidas seems to be one of these appreciative fans. The young director recently directed Dane DeHaan in his beat-era indie drama Kill Your Darlings, and could not contain his glee when introducing the young star as “the Green Goblin” at the Sundance Film Festival. Needless to say, this set the geek world ablaze.

The character of Harry Osborn famously becomes the Green Goblin when his father is killed at the hands of Spider-Man. Norman Osborn — Harry’s Father — was mentioned on several occasions throughout the first film and it’s believed that he is to be revealed quite sinisterly in the next film as the Green Goblin. But that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll die and have Harry take the reigns. Or has John Krokidas said too much?

This isn’t the first time someone in the know has revealed secrets, after all. It was only a few months ago when Patrick Stewart spilled the beans for X-Men: Days of Future Past. It’s not at all outside the realm of possibility. Dane DeHaan proved he could give the sweet and the sour in last year’s Chronicle, where he went from an introvert to an egomaniacal madman blessed with superpowers. Sound familiar, Spider-Man fans?

There’s still plenty of time for John Krokidas, Dane DeHaan, Marc Webb and yourselves to speak out on this incident. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 does not hit theaters until May 2014. We’ll be sure to update you as more information is released.
