Robocop Peter Weller to Star in J.J. Abrams' Next 'Star Trek'

Peter Weller, the seasoned actor who played the title role in the 1987 action film “Robocop”, has joined J.J. Abrams’ next “Star Trek” movie, according to the TheWrap.com

No details have been revealed as to what character Weller will be playing, but it won’t be his first “Star Trek” role, because he appeared in two episodes of “Star Trek: Enterprise” in 2005 as John Frederick Paxton.

The Paxton character was depicted as a murderous leader of the radical group Terra Prime, which advocated expelling all non-humans from earth and the entire solar system.

The main roles in the new Star Trek movie  are expected to to be refilled with their previous actors like Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura and Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov. Weller will join Alice Eve as the newcomers. Abrams reportedly is attempting to recruit Benicio Del Toro for the movie’s villain role.

In addition to “Robocop,” Weller played the title role in the 1984 “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension”.

The 2009 remake of “Star Trek” grossed $257.7 million domestically and $127.9 million internationally.  The movie is tentatively scheduled to be released May 17, 2013.
