The newest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta premiered Sunday night and as expected it was full of drama and surprises. This is the first season without former cast member Sheree Whitfield but her absence was barely noticed thanks to the antics of newbie Kenya Moore. Moore, a former Miss USA and model, had no qualms about being over the top and dramatic. Cast member Cynthia Bailey invited Moore to be a judge for the Jet Beauty of the Week auditions she was holding at her modeling school. Moore took the opportunity to be the group’s Simon Cowell and blatantly insulted the contestants during the casting call, something that upset Bailey. One of Bailey’s assistants tried to call Moore out and the two got into a heated argument that ended when Moore called her personal security to escort the assistant away. Seems like Moore was working hard to make sure she made it to another season and according to a recent interview, this isn’t the last bit of drama RHOA fans will see from the beauty queen but she insists her behavior comes from a good place.
“Do I, as we say, “go in” on a few of the girls because I think they have a bad attitude or needed an adjustment? Yes,” she told the Detroit Free Press. “But at the end of the day I am always looking to my professional life and my personal life to empower other people.” She isn’t too worried about how she will be portrayed either.
“The producers can only get what you give them. They can’t make up something they didn’t shoot,” she continued. “It’s probably a little concerning one way or the other but that’s all in the risk you take when you join a reality show…Whatever they show of me is consistent with who I am as a person. I’m passionate, I’m feisty, I’m outspoken and I really do care about other people. I just am who I am and I’m hoping people will love that”
Viewers also got an inside look into the romantic lives of Kandi Burruss, who has a new romance, and Nene Leakes, who still maintains a sexual relationship with her ex-husband. The housewives are also pursuing new career endeavors. Leakes was shown having lunch with one of the creators of Glee and Phaedra Parks has expanded her growing mortuary business to include pets. The first episode didn’t disappoint and this season will probably continue to pull big ratings for Bravo.
