Comedian Whoopi Goldberg has become a self-proclaimed “little old Black lady.”
The “Sister Act” star made quite the return to her seat at the table on “The View” after undergoing treatment for a health concern.
“Well hello and welcome to ‘The View.’ It’s me I’m back,” said Goldberg with a smile on her face. She went on to explain to viewers why her presence was missed for two weeks prior to her June 29 return.
“I am back. I was out because I was dealing with something called sciatica, which is basically a bulging disc in your back and it impacts the sciatic nerve, sends pain down your leg.”
She likened the pain to a pesky old boyfriend who came back to bother her.
“There I was trying to move my leg — impossible to do. And it was really horrible, but I’m glad to be here,” said the EGOT winner before showing off her new “best friend.” She added, “I have a walker, which kind of freaks me out, I didn’t know that I needed it and you know what, that first step with the walker, this is my new best friend. I am just gliding along.”
Fans on the long-running show were equally as enthusiastic about Goldberg’s return to the show.
“Sciatica hurts like hell it is no fun! Feel better ❤️🩹 “
“Welcome back, Whoopi!! You’ve been sorely missed!”
“We missed you Whoopi. So glad you’re on the mend. The View isn’t the same without you. ❤️“
Goldberg’s disappearance, and subsequent return, aren’t the only shakeups going on at the daytime show that has run for 24 seasons. Meghan McCain, who has served as a co-host of four years, announced she would be leaving the show at the end of the season in July.
“This was not an easy decision,” said the daughter of late Sen. John McCain at the top of the month. “It took a lot of thought and counsel and prayer and talking to my family and close friends.”
Throughout her tenure on the show, McCain has found herself in very heated debates with each of her fellow co-hosts. Her outspoken nature and ideals have not always been met with understanding from viewers — some of whom are glad to see her departure.
“The news just keeps getting better. She will NOT be missed she can take her negative energy with her,” wrote a viewer online.
“I really tried to like her but she always has such a nasty attitude. Wishing her good luck.”
Network executives have yet to announce who will fill the soon-to-be vacant seat for the upcoming season.
