‘Sure to Be Memorable’: Nipsey Hussle to Be Honored at 2020 Grammy Awards, John Legend and Meek Mill to Join Tribute

It’s been recently announced that Nipsey Hussle will be honored at the 62nd Grammy Awards, and some of the people he worked with will participate.

Hussle was shot and killed on March 31, 2019, at the age of 33 in South Los Angeles in front of his Marathon Clothing store.

One of the last projects he worked on was a music video for a song called “Higher,” featuring John Legend and DJ Khaled, which is on Khaled’s “Father of Asahd” album.

Legend and Khaled will be part of the Grammy tribute, and so will Kirk Franklin, Meek Mill, YG and Roddy Ricch.

Right before his death, during an interview with Los Angeles’ REAL 92.3, Hussle revealed that he was working on a joint album with Mill, but the late rapper was killed before it was completed.

“We’ve been cutting ideas,” said Hussle in early March 2019. “We got a couple records that’s gonna go off for the summer.”

YG also had close ties with the “Victory Lap” rapper, as they collaborated more than once — with one of the last times being on Hussle’s 2018 single “Last Time That I Checc’d.”

Plus, Ricch — whose new album “Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial” debuted at No. 1 — also worked with Hussle on the 2019 single “Racks in the Middle.”

“An activist, entrepreneur and rapper, Nipsey Hussle had a lasting impact on not just his community but also the culture at large,” said Grammy Awards Executive Producer Ken Ehrlich in a press statement.

“There is no denying the influence he had and his legacy will be felt for generations to come,” he added. “We are honored to bring together this amazing group of artists to celebrate Nipsey’s life and pay tribute to his many contributions to music. It’s sure to be a memorable performance.”

The 62nd Grammy Awards will air live on Sunday, Jan. 26, at 8 p.m. EST at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the same place where Hussle’s memorial took place.

Alicia Keys will host the awards program. Other artists to perform throughout the evening include Charlie Wilson, H.E.R, Lizzo, Tyler, The Creator and Run D.M.C.
