Steve Harvey’s preferred nickname for his grandkids is a far cry from grandpa.
The “Family Feud” host explained that what he’d prefer his five grandchildren to call him is a moniker that harkens back to one of his jokes.

“I’m boycotting my grandkids anyway ’cause I didn’t wanna be called Papa — they called me Papa,” Harvey explained in the newest edition of his online segment “Rapid Fire with Steve Harvey.” “I wanna be called Big Pimpin’.”
The admission resulted in uproarious laughter from the studio audience and folks who caught the segment online were also cracking up.

Harvey’s admission has been shared before, though. When the comedian appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in April 2018, he explained to the talk show host he hoped to be called Big Pimpin’ by his grandkids. Meanwhile, wife Marjorie Harvey was content with a more traditional grandmother’s nickname.
“She’s all in,” Harvey said. “This Nana, Papa thing is big for her. She’s Nana — cool name. I’m Papa. I don’t wanna be Papa, though. I wanna be called Big Pimpin’. She told me my granddaughters can’t call me Big Pimpin’.”
He had further explained his reasoning a similar story on “Ellen” four years earlier, too.
“Biggie’s song was ‘big pimpin’ spending cheese’ and that’s all I do is spend money,” he told the host, mixing up Jay-Z’s 1999 song “Big Pimpin’” with the late Biggie Smalls.”
Despite that reasoning, Marjorie nipped that in the bud. And while the name may be a no, Harvey isn’t barred from Big Pimpin’ completely. Last year, the comedian brought his alter ego to life for Halloween when he dressed as the character.
“Big Pimpin’ got big money,” Harvey said in a video of him making it rain as he tossed out cash in costume. “What you need? Now that’s big money right there. Can’t be Big Pimp if you don’t got no money.”
Many fans caught the reference and reacted accordingly.
