Why Jada Pinkett Smith Might Have to Brush up On Her Fighting Skills

Jada Pinkett Smith might be reprising her role as Niobe in “The Matrix 4,” film, according to a report from Deadline. Her agent is said to be in negotiations at the moment.

The actress played in the second and third installments of the franchise, “The Matrix Reloaded” and “Matrix Revolutions,” which both came out in 2003.

Her character is described as the captain and pilot of the Logos hovercraft in the real world, and in the Matrix world, she’s a highly skilled martial artist who fought in the war against the Machines and the Matrix.

Nothing has been finalized yet, and Pinkett Smith has kept mum on the reports so far.

The Matrix films also starred Keanu Reeves as Neo, Harold Perrineau as Link, Laurence Fishburne, who played Morpheus, and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, which is a role that Pinkett Smith initially wanted.

She talked about it in a 2015 interview and explained that her chemistry with Reeves during the audition process wasn’t right.

But the Wachowski brothers, who were the directors, were so impressed with Pinkett Smith that they wrote Niobe for her especially. The actress also revealed the role of Neo was offered to her husband Will Smith, but he didn’t think “The Matrix” would be good.

“I remember meeting the Wachowski brothers and seeing their imagery and I was like, ‘Will, this is crazy,’” she explained. “And he was like, ‘I’m just not seeing it.’”

Pinkett Smith’s last film was “Angel Has Fallen,” the third installment of the “Fallen” films.

And, of course, she also co-hosts the ultra-popular “Red Table Talk” series with her mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones and daughter Willow Smith. Their last guest was Alicia Keys, who talked about having self-worth issues and not fighting for what she deserves at times.

There’s no word yet on when “Matrix 4” will be in theaters.
