‘Abrupt and Insensitive’: Nicki Minaj Apologizes to Fans for Recent Retirement Comments, Does Not Retract Them

Nicki Minaj caused a big old fuss on Thursday when she announced that she was retiring to start a family with her boyfriend Kenneth Petty. And now the rapper is trying to calm all of the people she’s rattled.

“I’ve decided to retire & have my family,” is the tweet Minaj sent. “I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE.”

While many didn’t take kindly to those words, the Barbz, Minaj’s ardent fan base, seemingly took it the hardest. And one person begged the rapper for some more answers.

“can u please just address this retirement thing?” that person asked. “You never left us so hurt your entire career. We’re just hurting Nicki 🙁 it’s US it’s the barbz plz.”

The “Queen” creator seemed to empathize with those she hurt and assured them a detailed explanation is forthcoming. Minaj also promised those who are now sad that they will feel a lot better once she talks about the tweet on her “Queen Radio” show. And she admitted that her tweet wasn’t the best way to announce her retirement.

“I’m still right here,” Minaj tweeted about 30 minutes after the fan reached out. “Still madly in love with you guys & you know that. In hindsight, this should’ve been a Queen Radio discussion & it will be. I promise u guys will be happy. No guests, just us talking about everything. The tweet was abrupt & insensitive, I apologize babe.”

But despite the 36-year-old addressing the issues, she didn’t deny retiring, which still had people really upset.

“So you not playing, your frfr ,” one person tweeted.

“I’m shook,” wrote another.

“Don’t go nicki plz,” someone begged.

Meanwhile, a TMZ source said Minaj’s retirement announcement doesn’t make sense, because she’s been working on music left and right of late. Plus she’s made plans to collaborate with other artists in the future and has studio time booked until next month.

The source said Minaj is really tired of all the Internet talk surrounding her name, like people always questioning the legacy she’ll leave, criticizing her songs and saying negative things about Petty. And that’s why she sent the retirement tweet.

Minaj’s man, whom she initially dated as a teenager in New York, is a registered sex offender after being convicted of rape when he was 16 years old. He also served seven years behind bars after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter in 2006.

Musically, Minaj’s last album was “Queen,” released in August of 2018. And she’s currently on the ubiquitous song “Hot Girl Summer,” with Megan Thee Stallion and Ty Dolla $ign.
