Black Woman Suffers a Collapse Lung After Getting Stabbed by White Suspect Who Also Hurled Racial Slurs

New York authorities are searching for a white man who stabbed and punched a Black woman inside of a Brooklyn subway station.

Ann Marie Washington, 57, was attacked by an unidentified white man while on her way home from work on Friday night. The victim suffered from a collapsed lung from being stabbed in the chest and was hospitalized on Sunday after undergoing surgery from her attack wounds, NBC 4 New York reported.

Washington was randomly targeted by the white male who yelled “Black bi**h” before brutally assaulting her. He allegedly hit her in the face multiple times, punched her in the mouth and stabbed her with a knife, advocates told the news station. The suspect then fled on the train after the attack.

The New York Police Department didn’t capture the culprit and officials initially refused to call the incident a hate crime, which sparked outrage among community members.

“If this was a white resident, a new gentrifier to this neighborhood, there would be swarms of cops here,” said advocate Imani Henry of Equality for Flatbush. “But when it is a Black person who is attacked by a white racist, there isn’t anything.”

Other advocates said there is actual footage of the 57-year-old’s brutal attack that was recorded by witnesses, but authorities refused to release it.

“The fact that the video isn’t out right now, this is completely insane,” said Kenzia Bernard Nau, an advocate and witness of the incident. “This is going to keep happening.”

Police said its Hate Crimes Taskforce is probing the assault as the attacker remains on the loose.

Family and friends of Washington said the Trinidadian native is still recovering from the injuries she sustained.
