Neffeteria “Neffe” Pugh made her return to “Iyanla: Fix My Life” last weekend and after making an attempt to resolve her issues with her husband Shelby “Soullow” Lowery in a season 4 episode, things got explosive in their season 5 appearance.
When the couple was on Iyanla Vanzant’s program before, the duo seemed to be venturing down a road to redemption despite their deeply-rooted issues, like Pugh’s wanting to be spoiled and Lowery navigating his childhood molestation.
But their marriage has continued to suffer and that becomes apparent when the two have such a heated argument — which culminates in Lowery calling Pugh his “massa” that Vanzant walks out on her guests for the first time ever.
“I will not in the name of entertainment put my name on this level of exploitation,” Vanzant tells Pugh. “A Black woman in front of the world cussin’ at that top of yo lungs at a Black man and you’ve got five children. No! You don’t get to do it in my presence! You slept with him and he paid your rent! And then, because you don’t like what he says, you cuss him? And you wanna put that in the world, Neffee? No! No!
“When you’re ready, and you’re willing to hear and receive, you let me know. I am done with this right here. I’m done with this,” she adds as she walks out.
Vanzant ultimately returned and while it seemed like the pair forgave one another, they had conflicting reports on what occurred after Vanzant’s visit. Lowery said his wife’s drinking had increased and he moved out of the house to focus on his health. He also said they’re in the process of getting a divorce. But his wife said she’s refusing to sign the papers and claimed she isn’t drinking and that her husband still lives at home with her.
Either way, it seems Neffe is, in fact, employing the tools Vanzant had imparted on her, writing on Instagram Aug. 12, “This is when I finally had to look at me… I must admit I had the worse feeling in my heart, mind, and soul… I went back to @iyanlavanzant #fixmylife to regain the healing that I did not get the first time… In the midst of this storm I had/have a new outlook on how to be a better me because I have been bitter for way too long…… IM NOT AFRAID OF MY PROCESS ANYMORE So many strong Boss Chicks who never gave up! @iamdrbobbi @trueindianhair @ielitenoel @jackie_rowe @Nairobi @krjnyc.”
Fans have encouraged the older sister of Keyshia Cole in her journey.
