Texas ‘Mugshot Bae’ Is Riding the Wave of Her Viral Photo Into a Potential Makeup Line

A young woman who was arrested towards the beginning of this year began trending on Twitter after her glitzy mugshot was shared.

Marshala Perkins was placed in handcuffs on February 6 after officers found two grams of marijuana in her vehicle. However, the troubling incident turned positive after social media got a hold of the 19-year-old’s mug shot.

The Dallas resident told Star Telegram on Wednesday that she was going out with friends the night she was arrested and decided to do a random makeup look on Facebook Live.

“I was actually bored that night. I was just going to go out with my friends looking the way I was looking,” Perkins said.

The former Texas A&M student was waiting on friends when a cop pulled up behind her and ran her license plates. The officer reportedly smelled marijuana coming from the woman’s car and asked her step out of the vehicle. The aspiring makeup artist was arrested and taken to jail.

However, Perkins’ “embarrassed” mugshot turned her into an overnight internet sensation after the Twitter Account “Mugshot Babes” featured the teen’s image. She was completely dolled up with a subtle glam look including a soft purple crease and shimmer lid. Her contoured makeup technique complimented her natural highlighted t-zone.

One Twitter user wrote, “We need a tutorial! Free her!” Perkins’ photo has been retweeted over 1,700 times.

“I really thought it was funny because I know with those pages somebody has to submit it… I’m thinking, ‘Who over here is thinking I’m cute enough to be on this page,” Perkins said. “I was still kind of embarrassed about it because it was something I didn’t want people to know. But then when I started reading the comments I was like, besides me being in jail people are really noticing my talent and what I can do.”

The 19-year-old has since received an offer to launch her own make-up line and re-launched her YouTube page in August. She told the news outlet that her followers have increased massively. Perkins is willing to continue riding the wave where it takes her, “Now it’s turned into something so positive so I’m just going to embrace it and see where it takes me.”
