The Dutch husband of Nigerian singer Alizee has been remanded in the murder of his wife and their daughter.
Peter Nielsen appeared in court Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder against Zainab Nielsen, the singer’s legal name, and 3-year-old daughter, Petra Nielsen, according to Vanguard.
Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos Adeniji Kazeem told the court June 13 that Nielsen committed the crime at the couple’s Banana Island home on April 5. There, The Guardian reported, the defendant allegedly tried to cover up the incident, which resulted in head injuries on Alizee, who was known for her songs like “Come and Take Me,” and a poisoned Petra.
Kazeem asked for a new trial date for the case, which was adjourned until Oct. 8.
Nielson’s lawyer, O. Shasore, wants the team to perform a DNA test of their own.
“We are interested in taking the blood sample of the defendant,” Shasore said. “I thought it will be better to inform this court that his blood sample would be taken for DNA analysis.”
Justice Bola Okikiola-Ighile asked the defendant to give consent for a blood sample to be taken for a DNA test, with which Nielson complied.
And although the autopsy report results are not yet in, Nielson’s lawyer said the team is ready to move forward.
“We are interested in the autopsy report and the prosecution has assured us that we would get it in four weeks. We need to consult some of our experts for analysis of the test as we would need it during [the] trial.”
In the meantime, the prosecutor said there’s an interim autopsy report that will be given to the defense.
