After Kim Kardashian was honored with the Influencer Award at the CFDA Fashion Awards Monday night, model Winnie Harlow sang her praises — much to the dismay of fellow model Adwoa Aboah.
“One of the [realest] and most down to earth people in any industry I’ve ever been around, I always Love being around you,” Harlow gushed of the reality star Tuesday, June 5. “Thank you for being you. If anyone understands not initially being accepted in an industry you adore like I do, it’s you! And now the Influencer Award at the @cfda’s?!? No one can ever take that away from you! Keep inspiring woman around the world to be themselves Unapologetically. Against every naysayer you’re you and I adore your strength 🙏🏽❤ love you @kimkardashian Congratulations!”
But Aboah wasn’t backing the former “America’s Next Top Model” contestant and she questioned how Kardashian could be considered an influencer.
Fans were split about Aboah’s take.
“@adwoaaboah 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽”
“@adwoaaboah So true. She is not an icon, she does not inspire women to be themselves. She promotes Appetite Suppressants, weight loss aiders, waist trainers etc. She has now tried to use her name in order to make people have a different opinion of her as she is now ‘helping with prison reform’. I mean yes wow that’s amazing…. but wtf do you know about prison….? She is an influencer but we have to remember she is a negative influencer not a positive one. People in this world are sheep, they need someone to copy, they want to be someone.”
“@adwoaaboah Why I love you.”
“@adwoaaboah Smh bringing down other women while preaching about female empowerment and women’s rights. There [are] better ways to bring awareness you’re just creating drama.”
“@adwoaaboah and you’re meant to be all about female empowerment right? Yeah … let’s not talk about inspirational women because you’re definitely not.”
“sashaveli@adwoaaboah hater.”
