Footage of a man trying to rouse a sleeping driver only for him to crash into a lamp post seconds later has folks debating over who’s to blame for the potentially deadly accident.

The video, shared on Facebook last month, shows a motorist honking his horn at another motorist who appears to have dozed off at the wheel. His repeated honks did little to wake the sleeping man, however, prompting the man to exit his car and go check on the other driver.

He walks up to the driver’s side window to see the man completely slumped at the steering wheel. That’s when the concerned motorist begins tapping, then banging on the window in an effort to wake the man from his deep sleep.

His repeated pounding did the trick, as the once-sleeping man sits up looking dazed and confused. Things then take a dangerous turn, as his car begins to roll forward, hitting an orange traffic sign. His car pauses for a second but proceeds to creep forward, crushing a wooden stop sign before careening into oncoming traffic.

After crossing over several lanes, the vehicle heads straight for a towering light pole and collides with it.

“Ohhh, sh-t! I shoudn’t have woke him up,” says the man filming.

The shocking video has been shared nearly 25,000 times, drawing a variety of reactions of folks who thought the good Samaritan was to blame for waking the driver in the first place. Others blamed the sleeping motorist, who they said shouldn’t have been behind the wheel and was likely high on drugs at the time.

This incident reportedly took place in Baltimore, Md.
