After Spitting on Black Pre-Schooler, Man Tells Police ‘It’s OK, I’m a Fireman’

At a Hooters in Overland Park, Kansas, Monday night, a Black child was a victim of abuse from a man identifying himself as a firefighter. According to spectators of the incident, a white male saw a pre-school child wander away from his family and spat on him. A witness, who chose to remain anonymous, said as the family came to find the child, the firefighter stated, “get that little “blank” up off the floor.”

Police were called to the scene and what the man revealed after that was more shocking to those observing. The witness recounted, “I didn’t catch what the officer said to him, but his immediate response was ‘It’s okay, I’m a fireman.’ Like that was supposed to blanket cover everything for him.”

The parents of the child confirmed that the firefighter spat on their child while they were celebrating with family and friends. In a statement obtained by CBS News,
Overland Park Police Department denied the man is a firefighter. He does, however, face charges of battery and criminal threat.
