The Obamas are sticking around Washington D.C. for a while and have decided to buy the $8.1-million home they’ve been renting since the end of Barack Obama’s presidency.

“Given that President and Mrs. Obama will be in Washington for at least another two-and-a-half years, it made sense for them to buy a home rather than continuing to rent property,” spokesperson Kevin Lewis confirmed to the Chicago-Sun Times.

The Obamas’ younger daughter, Sasha, is still in school at Sidwell Friends and won’t graduate until 2019. Her older sister, Malia, is set to begin studying at Harvard University this fall.

This is the second home the former president and first lady will own; the other one is on the South Side of Chicago, which also is the location of the Obama presidential library.

Located in the historic Kalorama neighborhood, the Obamas’ 8,200-foot home features eight bedrooms and nine-and-a-half bathrooms, including one each for the Mr. and Mrs.

The house was previously occupied by former Bill Clinton press secretary Joe Lockhart and his wife, Giovanna Gray Lockhart, who now live in New York.
