There’s an App to Help You Boycott Businesses Affiliated with Trump

Consumers can now avoid Donald Trump-supporting businesses, thanks to a new app. Named Boycott Trump, it was created by the Democratic Coalition Against Trump. It is currently available for free on iTunes and Google Play.

According to the app’s description, Boycott Trump — not to be confused with another 99-cent app of the same name for Android — gives users the chance to glimpse more than 250 individuals and companies to review their immediate connections to the president-elect.

“Make Trump and his allies pay, literally, for their hateful rhetoric and regressive policies,” it reads. “Use consumer action to take a stand for what’s right!”

A few notable Trump supporting groups include Gucci, Nike, Johnson & Johnson and MillerCoors. According to TechCrunch, other companies like Amazon and PayPal are listed, too. Amazon sells Trump and daughter Ivanka’s clothing lines, while PayPal founder Peter Thiel has endorsed Trump.

Nate Lemer, DCAT executive director, told The Huffington Post the app marks the first in a set of motions to boycott the 45th president of the United States.

“This app is a first step in our larger Boycott Trump campaign, which will feature a unified grassroots movement centered on holding companies and individuals that help Trump in any way accountable,” he said. “The campaign is all about empowerment. By doing so, we aim to give people a safe and productive way to voice their disapproval of Trump. We’ve accepted Trump won the election, but that doesn’t mean we have to accept everything he stands for.”

DCAT’s website states that it originally formed in the spring of 2016 to keep Trump out of the White House. But since his election on Nov. 8, the organization, formed out of the Keep America Great PAC, looks to hold the President-elect accountable once he’s in office. In doing so, the organization will combat the 70-year-old and his Republican supporters “through aggressive digital and traditional advertising, grassroots action, in-depth opposition research and a nationwide rapid-response team.”
