Texas School Teacher Nicknames Classroom ‘Jighaboos,’ Claims Ignorance to Racist History

A white Bedford, Texas elementary school teacher is under fire after nicknaming her diverse class the ‘Jighaboos.’

FOX 4 reports that the father of a Bell Manor Elementary sixth-grade student discovered the racist term after asking his child about his school day.

His son says Jighaboos is the nickname given to his class.

However, other classes received inspirational and positive nicknames.

“You put ‘Dream Team’ and then you have the ‘Jighaboos.’ Really? Really with that? That’s, that’s unacceptable,” the father tells reporters.

After class was empty, the concerned parent took a photo of the sign stating:

“Mrs. ___’s Jighaboos are at school today to achieve our sixth grade goals and prepare for seventh grade.”

The parent says that the teacher motivates students with this mantra.

But, the teacher denies that she knew the term was a racial slur aimed at African-Americans.

After the Aug. 31 report, the Hurst-Euless-Bedford school district apologized for the term.
