An Atlanta store clerk has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault for illegally detaining an 11-year-old boy and holding him at gunpoint last Saturday morning.
According to Atlanta’s WSB-TV Channel 2 News, the young child, Dylan Curate, was at the store at 1:30 a.m. with adult relatives to buy a couple of things when Big Brother Grocery store clerk Abhishek Dubey suspected him of stealing.
At that moment, Dubey locked the doors by a remote and kept the young boy at gunpoint until cops arrived.
“I was extremely saddened and disheartened by it. That was my son, my baby,” says Dylan’s mother Deangela Terriquez. “He didn’t do anything wrong. He just came — he just came to the store.”
Witnesses informed Terriquez as soon as the incident happened.
The store’s employees say there have been recent robberies in the area and that they were taking precaution. Employee Atul Dwibedi says the gun Dubey used was not real. However, the gun was revealed to be an unloaded .22-caliber revolver.
When officers arrived, they looked at the surveillance footage and saw no wrongdoing on Dylan’s part. Dubey was arrested shortly after.
