A 62-year-old white man was charged Tuesday after pointing gun at drivers near a country road and firing the gun near a deputy in Wake County, North Carolina.
This event occurred the same week 37-year-old Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and 32-year-old Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, Minnesota were killed by police officers in open-carry states.
According to WRAL, Deputy D.R. Farmer saw William Bruce Ray standing near the road and pointing his gun at motorists. When he got out to confront Ray, the man pointed the weapon at him.
“The deputy luckily grabbed the barrel and pushed him back,” Sheriff Donnie Harrison says. “The man says, ‘I got something for you’ and reached in his pocket and came back with a pistol.”
Ray has been charged with two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, per the arrest warrant.
The 62-year-old could face an attempted murder charge. He is currently held on $150,000 bond.
