Last year, an Atlanta Black woman was accused of making terroristic threats against police officers nationwide around the time of the Baltimore protests for 25-year-old Freddie Gray.
In 2015, 33-year-old Ebony Dickens wrote this lengthy Facebook post about killing white cops:
“All Black ppl should rise up and shoot at every white cop in the nation starting NOW. I condone Black on white killings. Hell they condone crimes against us. I’ve thought about shooting every white cop I see in the head until I’m either caught by the police or killed by them. Ha!!!! I think I can pull it off. Might kill at least fifteen tomorrow. I’m plotting now. They reading this sh** too right now. Freedom of speech tho. So when you can absolutely show me the 1st amendment where it explicitly says you can’t say ‘kill all cops,’ then I’ll delete my status. Other than that…NOPE! Death to all white cops nationwide.”
Dickens and her attorney Gerald Griggs have struck a deal to get her out of possible jail time.
Today, she apologized in a news conference in front of Atlanta-area officers, which included DeKalb County Public Safety Director Cedric Alexander and Atlanta Police Union President Ken Allen.
In the minute-long apology, Dickens said she was frustrated about the increasing number of unarmed Black people being killed by cops.
“I do want to sincerely apologize about my status that I posted on Facebook,” said Dickens. “It was not at all intended for any officers to be hurt in any way.”
