Walmart Security Goes Into ‘Robocop Mode’ on Man Who Allegedly Stole Tomato; Lawsuit Pending

An Atlanta man — who was allegedly beaten by an officer for taking a tomato from Walmart — is now suing the Atlanta Police Department for brutality.

Atlanta’s WSB-TV reported that Tyrone Carnegay spent three days in jail for allegedly stealing a tomato. A store manager told officer Trevor King, who was working as security, to do something about the alleged tomato theft in the 2014 incident.

Surveillance video shows the officer repeatedly beating the man. Carnegay suffered a broken leg and severed artery. The plaintiff also spent three days in jail.

“As he’s grabbing me, he’s beating me at the same time, [saying] ‘Get on the ground,’ ” Carnegay said of his encounter with King.

However, Carnegay had a receipt in his pocket the entire time.

“The officer went into Robocop mode and beat the crap out of him,” said Carnegay’s attorney, Craig Jones.
