Black Rappers Are to Blame

The hosts of “Morning Joe” and their guests were adamant about the fact that they believe rappers hold the sole responsibility for white students, like the ones in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity video, feeling so comfortable saying the N-word. “If you look at every single song, I guess you call these, that he’s written, it’s a bunch of garbage,” said co-host Mika Brzezinski about rapper Waka Flocka Flame after he canceled his performance at the University of Oklahoma. “It’s full of n-words. … He shouldn’t be disgusted with them, he should be disgusted with himself.” Joe Scarborough added that this is just a matter of white kids repeating what they hear in music and insisted that they probably never heard such language used at home. The Washington Post slammed the theory in an article titled “Stop Blaming White Racism on Black Rappers.” “This ridiculously naïve formula stays in circulation because it’s convenient,” the article says. “It sets up a scenario in which a pure and gentle majority (which means white) culture is polluted by black people. It argues that white people who transgress can’t be held responsible for their racism because they have been poisoned or brainwashed.”
