Hemispherx Biopharma (AMEX: HEB)

Hemispherx Biopharma announced its plan to expand research on potential Ebola treatments to five institutional collaborators, including a branch of the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Army Research Institute in Infectious Disease (USAMRIID).

Shares of the Philadelphia-based company soared 15 percent Wednesday following the CDC’s announcement and the company’s own expansion plans.

Lakeland Industries (NASDAQ: LAKE)

Pharmaceutical companies are not the only ones who stand to profit from the devastating impact of the Ebola virus. Shares of New York-based company Lakeland Industries, which makes protective clothing, including Hazmat suits, popped almost 30 percent Wednesday.

The stocks have been climbing since the first case of Ebola in the U.S. was confirmed Tuesday afternoon.
