Previously, the Disney Channel has recently confirmed that a spinoff to ABC‘s successful sitcom, Boy Meets World, is in its early stages under the title Girl Meets World, but now more information has come forth showing that filming for the series is in full swing.
Until today, Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel were the only cast members from the original series to officially reprise their roles as Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence-Matthews, respectively.
Other cast members from the original comedy-drama series have stated that they, too, would like to reprise their roles in the sequel.
“‘Boy Meets World‘ was and continues to be these beautiful brushstrokes in my life,” said Anthony Tyler Quinn, who played English teacher Mr. Turner. “It was a wonderful experience, and I think [creator] Michael [Jacobs is] going to create something fresh. I’d love to be a part of it.”
But it appears that loyal fans of the show want nothing more than to see William Daniels return as the lovable teacher Mr. Feeny, who served as a constant mentor to Cory Matthews.
It’s just not Boy Meets World, without Mr. Feeny!, writes one poster on EW. The comment currently has 46 likes, presumably from other long-times fans.
After a photo appeared on Instagram courtesy of Maitland Ward, who joined the cast as Rachel Kimberly McGuire in the later half of the series, the overwhelming response begged for an answer to one question from producers of the sequel: will Mr. Feeny make a reappearance?
Producers must have listened, because The Huffington Post has recently confirmed that the popular character will return in Girl Meets World, and this will surely be a big draw for long-time fans and newcomers alike to tune in.
Still, it’s not clear how prominent or permanent the “Mr. Feeny” role will be. Since the photo shows Daniels in a classroom setting, could he be the principle? Will he only appear in the pilot? Perhaps he’s only visiting the school Cory and Topanga’s kids are attending and where Cory now teaches.
Only time will tell so check back for more updates as they become available.
