New Trailer for Studio Ghibli's 'From Up on Poppy Hill'

Arty animation fans everywhere rejoice – the latest Ghibli film is finally making its way to our shores. And now the first trailer featuring its English-language voice track is online. The English cast features Sarah Bolger, Anton Yelchin, Gillian Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christina Hendricks, and Aubrey Plaza, among others. The story takes place in 1960’s Japan, a time of great economic and social upheaval for the country, and follows two high schoolers as they fall in love.

From Up on Poppy Hill was directed by Goro Miyazaki, son of Ghibli’s legendary top animator / director Hayao Miyazaki, who co-wrote the script for the film. The elder Miyazaki’s credits include Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, and several over fantastic films. Goro has done this and the wretched Tales from EarthseaThe word of mouth around this movie is much more positive than it was around Earthsea, though, which is encouraging.
