The new international trailer for Life of Pi has been spreading accross the web like wildfire courtesy of enTV.
While the domestic trailer for the upcoming Ang Lee adaptation has already been released, the new trailer provides a little more framework to Pi Patel’s fantastic voyage, complete with a Sigur Ros and Coldplay soundtrack.
For those unfamiliar with the story, Life of Pi follows Piscine Patel – Pi for short – a zookeeper’s son who finds himself in the company of a hyena, zebra, orangutan, and a Bengal tiger after a shipwreck sets them adrift in the Pacific. The end result is a coming of age story set in the direst of circumstances.
After being written in 2001 by Yann Martel, Life of Pi has garnered demand for a film version ever since. It will star newcomer Suraj Sharma, Rafe Spall, Irrfan Khan and Gerard Depardieu. At one point, Tobey Maguire was attached to play a role, and M. Night Shyamalan was slated to direct.
Ang Lee seems to have breathed life into this project like few directors can. From the trailers, we’re presentd with a brilliant display of colors and contrasts that make the Pacific Ocean more than just an endless body of water. Lee also seems to have utilized the latest technologies without turning the novel into a video game. We’ll see if his execution and casting choices manage to match.
