Jaden Smith Releases His First Single, ‘Give It To Em’

Jaden Smith decided to give the music industry a try as he released a new video for his first single, “Give It To Em.” The song premiered on the popular radio show On-Air with Ryan Seacrest. After first being featured rapping on Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never” in 2010, it seems Jaden Smith has finally decided to create his own spotlight in the music industry.

Jaden Smith, son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett, had his first breakthrough acting role in 2006 alongside his father in the Pursuit of Happyness. Four years later the young child star would join forces with Jackie Chan to create the remake of The Karate Kid in 2010. When his younger sister, Willow Smith, had her first music debut, releasing a video for the hit single “Whip My Hair,” her brother was featured in several scenes showing off some rather impressive dance moves. It was obvious that Jaden would soon be a force to be reckoned with. Now that he has released the new music video, Jaden has already become a triple threat at the age of 13.

Nobody would have guessed that the skinny little curly-haired kid sitting beside his father in the Pursuit of Happyness would grow up to be the same boy showing off his muscles in the black-and-white music video. The self-proclaimed “hot spinner of the century” seemed to be quite the natural as he flowed effortlessly through each line, throwing in some clever word play. The video had a simple concept, as Jaden Smith rapped the entire track in an empty, dimly lit room. Perhaps this was a well thought out strategy on the rapper’s part, allowing the audience to focus on his lyrics rather than the complexity of some drawn out plot that would be seen in most music videos.

The young actor, dancer and now rapper also decided to change up his look. He has done away with the curly frocks that he often wore braided back and is now rocking a cut similar to his father’s. Jaden’s new high top hair cut with low cut sides seemed to better fit the atmosphere of his new music video, giving him a little more attitude than the curly ‘do would have.

And attitude is exactly what Jaden delivered as he rapped, “Just 13 trying to live my life/ Got in trouble for it once/ But I just did it twice.” There is no word out yet on whether the young rapper will be releasing an album any time soon, but he went public with his interest in the ladies. “Cause right now I’m really restless/ Flirting with my extras,” Jaden admitted on the track.
