With No Makeup, Rihanna A Good Role Model, This Time

Rihanna is refreshingly down-to-earth, though her role model status for young girls has been called into question on numerous occasions.

The singer went without a touch of makeup for a few self-portraits on Twitter that she tweeted to her 18 million followers. While her musical hits may be too honest and X-rated for some, these pictures portray a confident and refreshing take on beauty.

The 24-year-old singer should be applauded for displaying herself without all the stage makeup and costumes. Let’s be honest, there are not many celebrities who would take pictures of themselves without even a little mascara.

Though Rihanna has stated numerous times that she is not a role model, the singer has made numerous moves over the years that appear to be the actions of a role model, including her attempt to bring awareness to sexual assault and violence in her “Man Down” video.

“See, people … they want me to be a role model just because of the life I lead. The things I say in my songs, they expect it of me, and [being a role model] became more of my job than I wanted it to be. But no, I just want to make music. That’s it,” Rihanna said in British Vogue.

However, despite her “feelings” regarding being a role model, the singer does believe her experiences dealing with domestic violence and witnessing a father struggling with substance abuse make her no different from her fans.

“Look, God doesn’t give any more than you can handle,” she said. “I had to get through a lot of ups and downs—big down —and a lot of trial and error to get where I am now.”

Kudos to Rihanna for taking those pictures of herself, and displaying her natural beauty to the world.
