Mayweather Makes $1.8 Million off Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers may have made history in overcoming a huge deficit Sunday night over the Grizzlies in Memphis. But Floyd Mayweather made money off of the win. Big money.

The champion boxer who fights Miguel Cotto in a junior middleweight bout in the Las Vegas on Saturday reportedly won $1.8 million from betting on the underdog Clippers.

L.A.  pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in NBA post-season history, erasing a 27-point deficit to defeat the Grizzlies, 99-98. According to The Sporting News, Mayweather’s personal handicapper confirmed the fighter made almost $2 million in bets on the Clippers across seven different sports books.

Mayweather probably felt punch drunk when L.A. trialed by two dozen points in the last nine minutes of the game. It was around that time that point guard Chris Paul demanded head coach Vinny Del Negro get him off the bench and onto the floor. Behind Paul and strong efforts from a number of players (not to mention a serious choke job by the Grizzlies) – the Clippers mounted the comeback for a 1-0 playoff series lead – and big bucks for Mayweather.

If Floyd is willing to bet 1.8 million dollars on a game, then sadly he will end up broke. Gamblers always lose in the long wrong. Don't get cocky champ. You'll only be making this money for a few more years.
