The beautiful and incredibly talented Audra McDonald anchors the cast of the trimmed down and rebranded classic folk opera, The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess now playing on Broadway.

McDonald, a four-time Tony Award winner, popularly known for her portrayal of Dr. Naomi Bennett on ABC’s nighttime drama Private Practice, is unquestionably one of the most talented actor/singers of our time. Smart money has her as an odds-on favorite to win yet another Tony for her role as Bess in this theatrical revival.
Complementing Ms. McDonald’s awesome stage work is Norm Lewis delivering an extremely competent Porgy and veteran comedic talent David Alan Grier as the funny and sometimes sinister, Sporting Life.

In its new slimmer iteration, The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess runs 2 1/2 hours and moves at a pace that’s designed for modern attention spans. Make it a must-see on your next visit to the Big Apple, but do it soon; it won’t be around for long.

The Gershwins Porgy and Bess is in limited run through mid-September at the Rodgers Theatre, 226 W. 46th St.
