The sci-fi thriller, The Host, has released its very first trailer online. In the film based on Twilight author Stephenie Meyer’s novel, the human race has been invaded by alien spirits.
Saoirse Ronan plays Melanie Stryder, a human being whose body, like everybody else’s in the world, has become possessed by an alien from the “Souls” race. Stryder doesn’t accept occupation and decides to resist submitting her spirit to the enemy invader named Wanderer, also played by Ronan.
Besides Ronan, the film also stars Diane Kruger, William Hurt and Max Irons, whose father is Oscar winner Jeremy Irons.
The plot is subtly divulged at in the teaser, which features a very portentous narration from Ronan’s character:
“The Earth is at peace. There are no wars. There is no hunger. Honesty, courtesy and kindness are practiced by all. The world has never been more perfect…. It is no longer your world.”
After this the occupied Earthling’s faces, all having creepy blue eyes, flash across the screen.
The film won’t be released until March 2013. But we are obviously talking about it now thanks to Meyer’s participation in the mega-famous Twilight books and film franchise. The last movie in the vampire saga, Breaking Dawn – Part 2, arrives in November.
