Oscar winning actress Hilary Swank’s media fall-out over her paid appearance during the birthday of controversial Chechen president Ramzan Kadyrov continues to grab headlines as the Million Dollar Baby star shifts into damage control mode.
Ramzan Kadyrov has a very sordid past including numerous reports of human rights violations ranging from the torture and murder of Chechen citizens. Swank claimed she was completely unaware of this fact when her agent and PR team at 42West booked the event.
Consequently, Swank fired her manager of eight years, Jason Weinberg, and two of his associates at CAA. But she strangely retained her lawyer, Jeff Bernstein, who reportedly played a significant role in the Chechnya visit.
Three weeks ago Swank apologized for attending and promised to donate her fee to charity, but she still refrained from taking any personal responsibility.
“If I had a full understanding of what this event was apparently intended to be, I would never have gone.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, a source familiar with the situation confirmed that the publicity firm parted ways with Swank over a disagreement on how best to deal with the fallout from the Oct. 5 event, which was also attended by Jean-Claude Van Damme, Seal, and English violinist Vanessa-Mae.
Calls to 42West have not been returned, and Swank’s lawyer has not responded to a request for comment. Times may be hard, but when two time Oscar winners begin making birthday appearances for dictators, then we really know the economy is struggling.
The business of the Kardashian empire to doing very well given the incessant media coverage of Kim Kardashian’s shocking divorce. The latest reports are claiming that Kim’s trip to meet with her soon to be ex Kris Humphries was a sign that the couple were on their way to reconciliation. However I simply see it as the beginning of the end as Kim was spotted appearing worse for wear with luggage in toe after leaving Kris’s Minnesota home yesterday evening.
Kim K exited the premises with not only her trendy luggage, but also Pastor Joel Johnson who married the two this past summer. According to TMZ, the celebrity couple sat for a four hour meeting with Joel before Kim later departed. She was also seen taking a brief break for a personal call outside before returning to the impromptu divorce intervention.
Sources are telling US Weekly however, that Kim’s objective was to find closure. Her rash decision to file for divorce caused an expected rift between she and Kris.
“Things were escalating very quickly with them,” the source explains. “There were emails that were getting hostile.”
“She’s been having a really, really hard time,” the source added. “She’s mourning the end of this relationship — which, despite what everyone thinks, was very real.”
Of course Kim defended her premature decision to file for divorce last Tuesday after being accused that the entire event was simply for show.
“I married for love. I can’t believe I even have to defend this,”
“I would not have spent so much time on something just for a TV show!”
Really Kim? How is anyone to tell when your real life begins and the sitcom ends when it appears your entire life is a TV show? If we miss anything, we can simply catch up with the re-runs on E!
There is no official word that Kim Kardashian will agree to a new show chronicling her divorce, thus far cameras are banned from covering the behind the scenes drama, which is too bad because I was really hoping to watch them hash out on an E! divorce special!
